“Anthropocene” Underway

For the past several months, I’ve been building what will be a room-sized installation of miniature imagined scenes from the Anthropocene, the geologic era of time (now) dominated by the influence of human beings. These miniature scenes, eventually installed on the wall and wrapping around the room in the single line, represents a stratum, or fossilized layer of human activity.

To help you get an idea of scale, the miniatures are about 1” deep, 3-6” tall and will be about 80 feet long. I have completed about 46 feet, as of today.

The miniatures are made of discarded plastics, mostly from obsolete electronics, and tossed cardboard, wood and fabric. I finish them with acrylic paint and graphite, my intention to make the pieces look charred, decayed or fossilized.

I do not know where I will install this piece. If you know of a room about 80 feet in circumference with mostly uninterrupted wall space and amenable to an art installation, please let me know.
